9 year old boy brings gun to Washington School... Charged with assault

What is a nine year old doing with a gun? How did it come into his possession? Where were his parents in all this? He has been charged with third degree assault? However, where is the liability from his parents or accountability for that matter? This is definitely a criminal law matter... but should the parents be held accountable?

  1. Yes the parents are definatly responsible for this. if you buy a gun you are the one that is responisble for it. the item you purchased has the abilty to end a life and if do to your lack of responibilty that happens it is you in the crosshairs.

  2. Hard to tell. It really depends on how the child got the firearm in the first place. Let's face it Weapons are easily accessible this day and age. 24% of California households report having at least one firearm. So what is that 1 out of 4 homes in California have a gun? It even says in the article that Washington state has loose gun laws.

If the parents owned the firearm and didn't have it locked up then they are as guilty as the child. However, if the parents had no part in the child acquiring the weapon then they are victims. You don't have to teach a child that taking a gun to school is dangerous as it is obvious. that is like explaining jokes to a comedian.

Sometimes parent's can be blamed for something that is solely their child's poor lack in judgement and it is unfair to hold them responsible for their kid's poor decisions. If the guns are inaccessible then none of these events will take place. I can teach you to not shoot people but you still CAN do it. I can take away the gun and you CAN'T shoot people.
