Signing of the Constitution 1787

Thursday, March 3, 2011

The big issue these days is same-sex marriage and the question is whether or not it is constitutional to deny it. In my humble opinion there is no question; of course it should be allowed. Take away all religious and personal opinions and just look at the legality of it. It is simply unconstitutional and un-American to deny a person such a simple freedom as marriage. It is discrimination in its purist and most disgusting form. It is no better than saying that people from different races cannot marry. As for the religious view points, I have this to say: What happened to the separation of church and state? But putting aside all personal beliefs, it simply should not be legal for the government to discriminate against an entire demographic like this. It scares me to think where this will lead, what discriminations will be allowed next? The U.S Constitution, the very foundation of our government, was based on one simple thing: "Majority rule, Minority Rights;" The governments basic and most fundamental job is to protect the minority against the majority and they have utterly failed to do so this time.
