What does freedom of speech entitle? It gives people the right to speak about facts and their beliefs. Many say that knowledge is power. If one has the right to speak freely about what they know, should they? In the documentary, "Food Inc.", people go behind the curtain and find out more about what they are consuming whether they know it or not. Many people in the meat and dairy industries have not been able to speak out about the chemicals, pesticides, and harsh treatment of the animals they work with and slaughter. Freedom of speech must be put in use if it is to remain one of our liberties. If one has the liberty to better society and inform their fellow citizens of what is being put into their food that may be causing their body and health harm, I believe that it is their job to do so.
Here is information from PBS about secrets food companies may not be telling us.
It's pretty crazy what goes into some food. I agree that the right to free speech is very important to this country and it seems like a lot of people don't realize they have it. They might just not know some information that isn't widely known. People should inform others about harmful things. I think the picture is funny also.
ReplyDeleteI believe that as Americans we have rights to do things, unless those rights are going to take away millions of dollars away from other rich and corrupt americans and even politicians. If you want to go talk about something or a topic that no one could care about, no one is going to stop you. Now if your going to talk poorly upon something or someone that has the potential to take money away from others your going to have a harder time. With money comes power, and with that power you can buy freedoms or the power to stop other people from their freedoms.

I have seen Food, Inc., Supersize Me, and other food documentaries and it is sickening how food in America is produced. Since there are more and more people in the world, the only concern seems to be mass production at cheaper costs. Corn is in EVERY thing you eat because it is the cheapest thing to grow..but its bad for you!!! People should totally know what they're eating and where its coming from. Don't be naive!
